Take to the Roads Garage – Episode 13 Alfa Spider Oil Change with Duckhams Oil

Episode 13 of Take to the Roads Garage has landed on my YouTube Channel. In this episode I finally get round to ticking a big item of the Alfa Romeo Spiders to do list… and that is an engine oil change. For this video I was very kindly supplied oil for the service by Duckhams. Now there’s a name we haven’t heard for a while!

All ready for some new oil! Thankfully the Alfa isn’t that thirsty!

That’s right the great British brand Duckhams is back after a 15 year absence, which I mentioned in my news post the other day. In total I recieved 3 gallons of Q20w-50 oil, enough to service both the Alfa Spider and the Vauxhall Viceroy. It too is due an oil change soon and I will be filming that one in the coming weeks.

My old can of Q20w-50 oil with the new Q20w-50 Classic Motor Oil

The cool thing about Duckhams sending me some of their Q20w-50 oil is the fact that I actually have an old can of Duckhams oil from the 1980s. It was bought by my Dad many years ago and the empty can of Duckhams Q20w-50 Motor Oil was kept as a spare container. I acquired the can as I thought it would be an ideal display piece for the Take to the Road HQ. And now I’ve got a nice little collection of new old style Collector Edition tins to add to the display.

Duckhams was famous for its green oil. And now it is back!

Those of you who remember Duckhams from the 1960s through to the 1980s will be aware of the brands unique feature. Which was its green colour. Well the famous green multigrade oil is back! In fact it also has quite a distinctive smell. And there is nothing better than the smell of clean fresh oil. If you aren’t a car person, you’ll never get that.

The all important record for the history file. Oil change carried out at 130,687 KM. Which is 81,205 miles.

So moving back to Episode 13, this was the first time I’d done an oil service on an Alfa Romeo. Overall it went well, with the exception of the location of the oil filter. Don’t you just love it when engineers put them in awkward places?! But to be fair I have seen a lot worse. And thankfully I didn’t have to resort to the good old screwdriver trick, which usually does more harm than good.

At the end of filming I have to say I was very pleased with how the service went. It was great tick another job off the project list. Which means I can now crack on with the interior of the car. I’ve actually made some really good progress on the interior lately and will be planning an unveil soon. I just need to finish off a few more jobs and then it will be ready to show off! Don’t forget to Subscribe to the YouTube Channel to keep up to date on Take to the Roads Garage!

Thanks again to Duckhams for supplying the oil for this episode of Take to the Roads Garage.
