So, you’re planning your next road trip? Perhaps you’ve got the itch to travel again or you just need a break from work. Road trips allow you to define your adventure and give you complete control over where you go and how long you stay.
It also means you can leave at the drop of a hat so all of your adventures can be spontaneous. But, there’s one thing you should never leave up to chance and that’s your car. Your vehicle should always be fully prepared for any road trip. Here’s how to make that happen.
Change The Filters
Your oil and air filters should be regularly maintained. If either of them stop working while you’re traveling, you could come across some unwelcome issues. The last thing you want is to need to find a mechanic while you’re trying to enjoy yourself.
If your filters haven’t been changed for a while, it can lead to bigger problems that could cancel your trip altogether.
Check Your Tyres
Car tyres are an essential part of car maintenance but it’s surprising how many people leave for a road trip without checking their tyres. There could be any number of problems that your tyres could point out to you. For instance, you may notice one or more of your tyres haven’t got enough air or have a puncture.
You can get your tyres replaced in a hurry at a local tyre shop. In addition, tyres can also indicate tracking problems with your car that your mechanic will be able to fix before you set off.
Clean Your Car
Cleaning your car may not be high on your priority list before you set off on a road trip but it should be. Firstly, if you’re going to spend a lot of time in your car, you should make sure it smells fresh. Secondly, if your car is clean and organised, you’ll be able to easily put your hands on what you need when you need it.
For instance, if you’re using a map to get to your destination, you should be able to find it quickly. It will also give you the room you need to store belongings on your trip.
Extra Screenwash
Packing extra screen wash can be a lifesaver when you’re on a road trip. Many road trips involve driving off road or on tracks that aren’t car-friendly. It could result in your car getting so dirty that it impairs visibility.
If you haven’t got screenwash with you, you may find it difficult to drive. As soon as you get a chance, stop and wash your car and recheck your tyres so you can continue safely.
Cover Headlights
It’s not one that most people think of but bug clogs can damage your headlights. If you’re heading somewhere that’s known for its pests while driving at high speeds, consider covering your headlights with clear plastic so your car doesn’t get damaged.
