A 1955 Austin Healey 100/4s that is eligible for the Mille Miglia is being offered for sale with Hampson Auctions’ sale, Thornton Manor, Wirral on the April 28. Said to be in concours condition, this rare 100/4s was uprated to the highly desirable works M specification, making it not only a smart looking roadster, but a capable one as well.
Fully restored to a high standard, the Healey comes with both eligibility and registration for the Mille Miglia, the world’s premier classic car rally. The Healey is currently registered with the rally organisers and is being provided with an Eligibility Booklet and bumper badge. Also included with the documentation is a FIVA ID card and a heritage certificate.
This particular 100/4s left the Longbridge production line in October 1955 and was dispatched to Melbourne, Australia. Prior to its repatriation to the UK in 2019 the car was treated to an extensive rebuild by the globally-renowned Healey specialist Steve Pike of Marsh Classic Restorations of Melbourne.
Following its return to UK shores, the rare Healey was uprated to full M specification by long-term Healey aficionados Murray Scott-Nelson of Scarborough, North Yorkshire. The notably low 63,000 miles currently displayed is believed to be genuine.
The list of upgrades carried out were extensive and included M spec pistons, alloy cylinder head and twin H6 SU M spec carburettors. The crankshaft, conrods, flywheel and clutch were balanced and the Healey was also treated to an uprated alternator and an electric cooling fan. The suspension was also treated to uprated dampers and an anti-roll bar.
On the inside the Healey has been finished in blue over white and comes with a blue tonneau cover. A handy USB socket has been installed, along with a Brantz rally timer, which are all the features you need to compete in historic rallies.
The Healey was displayed at the 2019 NEC Classic Car Show and, by invitation, at a GRRC Members’ meeting at Goodwood last summer. Superbly finished in Healey blue over white bodywork teamed with white-piped blue leather interior trim, the car is being sold complete with Brantz rally timer, FIVA ID card and Heritage Certificate, as well as the aforementioned Mille Miglia registration.
Commenting on this very desirable BN2 model, Hampson’s Managing Director Zach Hamilton said: “The 100/4 will appeal to Healey lovers everywhere, but would be doubly perfect for anybody seeking an ultra cost-effective entry into the Mille Miglia.”
This very attractive 1955 Austin Healey 100/4s has an auction estimate of £100,000-110,000. Further details on the Healey and all other cars so far consigned for the April auction can be found at www.hampsonauctions.com.
