After changing the four wheels attached to your classic, another upgrade option is its steering wheel. Now this might be controversial as steering wheels on old cars always look cool and can have a lot of character. And if the steering wheel is original, you might not want to change it. They are usually a lot larger than modern day steering wheels and have a retro look that only a classic can have.
Sometimes old steering wheels can be too big, which can make changing gear difficult, especially if your classic is tight on space. If you’ve just passed your driving test, the last thing you need is a car that is difficult to drive. So swapping out the original wheel for smaller diameter Motalita type design can be a good move. Plus it retains the period retro look.
Having comfortable seats in a car is very important and makes it more useable on a day to day basis. Changing a classics original seats is again another controversial option.
But if you want to sit in something with a bit more comfort and have better lumbar support, then swapping the seats if always a good move. And if the budget stretches to it, a set of period style bucket seats would be the way to go.
Installing a new sound system is another top upgrade item when you get your first car. Classics don’t always have the best stereos since they hail from a different era. Plus you might actually prefer listening to the sound of the engine.
