Highlights from St Christopher’s Classic Car Show 2015

Last year we stopped by St Christopher’s Classic Car Show in Orpington in Kent. It was a nice sized show with a great cross section of classics on display. And the event was all for a good cause, raising money for St Christopher’s Hospice. Last time round we didn’t take our Bertone x1/9 Gran Finale to the show as it was being worked on and wasn’t ready for showing. But this year it was ready for the show (just!) and we parked up with another x1/9 Gran Finale and a Fiat x1/9 1300. It was a great day out with superb weather and an even better selection of cars on display. We got to meet some interesting owners who showed us round their rides and we also spoke to quite a few people who used to own x1/9s back in the day. All had interesting stories to tell.

Because we’ve been so busy filming this year and working on the site, we have only made it to two classic car shows which has been a little annoying. It was great to be back out with our x1/9 and showing it off with lots of other cool classics. We’ll definitely be booking ourselves in for next year. Hopefully we’ll have a few more projects completed on the x1/9 by then.

For more details on the show and St Christopher’s Hospice visit their website.

Below is a selection of some of the cars that caught our eye yesterday. There were some real beauties out for their day in the sun.

1938 Fiat 508C St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
This fantastic Fiat 508C 1100cc is a one of a kind example which was built from a chassis and engine of a new 508C Saloon in 1938. It has been restored by the current keeper, who had chased the car for over 30 years. It was raced at Brooklands pre-war, sprinted at the Brighton Speed Trials post war, and recently at the Crystal Palace Sprint meetings. The Restorer was very interesting and we loved the story he told about his hunt for this car. Great car, great restoration!
St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
This Volvo P1800 is an early model from 1963 that has the characteristic bull horn front bumpers which was changed on later models.

Jensen C-V8 St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
We saw this superb Jensen C-V8 last year and we couldn’t help but check it out again. A great classic British GT with American V8 grunt.
Jensen 541R St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
Before the Jensen C-V8 there was the Jensen 541R. This is a later R model which stood for rack and pinion steering. This car is all original with the exception of the interior. It was well preserved and had a nice aged patina to it. We had a great chat with the owner. Powered by an Austin 3ltr engine, these were also excellent GT cars. Very cool.
Oldsmobile Super 88 St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
This Oldsmobile Super 88 is a rare 5th generation coupe which was built between 1961-64. The Super 88 had a four barrel carb 394 Skyrocket V8 that produced 325BHP. Not bad at all! It was a pretty cool car and looked in good shape. You don’t see many of these on the road in the UK.
Ford Mustang Fastback St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
A classic Ford Mustang Fastback. We love the fastback look on the earlier Mustang’s and actually prefer them to the the notchback. This one looked very clean.
Cadillac Coupe DeVille St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
This Cadillac Coupe DeVille Coupe was enormous. All American. Imagine the size garage you need for this… and the fuel bill as well. Thirsty!

This side profile really gives you an idea how big this car is. And its only a 2 door coupe!
Dodge Charger St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
Ah yes a Dodge Charger… everyone’s favorite American Muscle Car! We actually loved the creamy yellow paint job. Not normally a colour we like but it just looks awesome on this Charger. Very very cool!
Dodge Charger St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
The name that carry’s a lot of weight in the muscle car world. Just whispering the name will make a petrolheads hair stand on end.
Dodge Charger St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
The front grill says this is an R/T model which is one of the most sought after Chargers. The headlights are hidden behind the grill which is operated by a vacuum system. The wide mouth grill really gives the Charger a mean look.
De Lorean St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
A classic car show wouldn’t be the same with a De Lorean on display. This one looked very nice indeed.

The iconic badge with the equally iconic doors.
Lancia Beta Montecarlo St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
This Lancia B Montecarlo was a very tidy example of this mid engined coupe. The bigger brother of the Fiat x1/9 basically.
Ponitac Catalina and an NSU TT St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
Little and large side by side. An impressive Pontiac Catalina Convertible beside an equally impressive NSU TT. Amazing seeing the differences in these cars. The NSU TT was on the London to Brighton Classic Car Run with us back in May.
Ford Escort Mexico St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
A very very nice Ford Escort Mexico. We don’t know if it was a genuine Mexico as we didn’t get a chance to speak to the owner. It looked very well done however.

The badge that sends classic Ford enthusiasts wild.
Bertone x1/9 and Fiat x1/9
And our little x1/9s on display. Our Gran Finale is on the left with the 1300 in the middle and the other Gran Finale on the right.
Bertone x1/9 St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
Our Bertone x1/9 Gran Finale scrubbed up alright on the day. It enjoyed its day in the sun.
St Christophers Classic Car Show 2015
And the event was all in aid of St Christopher’s Hospice. A really good cause.
